Hewlett-Packard and Terremark Worldwide have signed a multi-year partnership to offer outsourced Internet infrastructure and managed services to enterprise and telecom customers.
The companies will share costs of the initiative, which will largely focus on Latin America, as well as revenues generated by it. Among the planned offerings are co-location, managed networks, managed applications and storage. All will be backed by comprehensive service level agreements.
HP, based in Palo Alto, Calif., will contribute products and services, access to enterprise customers, sales channels, technical and facilities support, as well as hosting facilities.
In turn, Terremark, based in Miami, will provide Gigabit Ethernet (define) peering fabric, network design and operation, entree to carrier customers and network outsourcing.
Eduardo Araujo, an HP vice president, said the partnership is the first step in establishing a longterm relationship with Terramark.
"As the two companies further define areas of technological and marketing cooperation, we look forward to the potential development of new products and services," Araujo said.
HP likes Terremark's expertise and reach. The company's network access points (define) allow interconnections between carriers, Internet service providers and others. The backbone components also connect overseas fiber networks to those in the
United States.
As a result of its merger with Compaq Computer, HP has bolstered its international operations. It now has more than 145,000 employees worldwide and a presence in more than 160 countries.
