Storage Strategies for Small Businesses
November 7, 2006--2 p.m. EST, 11 a.m. PST
When it comes to storage, small and medium businesses have a lot in common with large enterprises. Just like the Fortune 400, they need to ensure that data is backed up, retrievable and secure, and that data access complies with governmental regulations. Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Attend this webcast and learn storage strategies to meet your growing business demands.

Ixia and Optillion Demonstrate XENPAK Interoperability
March 8, 2002
By Enterprise Storage Forum Staff

Ixia , a provider of high-speed, multiport network performance analysis and network monitoring systems, and Optillion, a high-speed fiber-optic transceiver vendor, today announced system level interoperability demonstrations between a fully functional 10 GbE product and a XENPAK transceiver.

The companies said the interoperability -- on both electrical and optical XENPAK interfaces -- between the independently developed Ixia and Optillion products demonstrates their adherence to the latest XENPAK Multi-Source Agreement (MSA), which assures interoperability with network equipment vendors who likewise are implementing the IEEE 802.3ae standard for XENPAK interfaces.

"Many in the high-speed networking market are eagerly waiting to see fully functional XENPAK transceivers operating seamlessly with 10GbE network equipment," said Patrik Evaldsson, CEO for Optillion. "We are very proud that together with Ixia we've been able to show that there is now fully functional XENPAK equipment available in the market."

Optillion said its fiber-optic 10 GbE transceiver modules, TOP 3010 (for up to 10 km link distance) and TOP 5010 (up to 40 km link distance), are highly integrated, complete Ethernet LAN PHY's.

"Following our recent announcement of the first XENPAK performance analysis system, we have now demonstrated the interoperability of our test platform with Optillion transceivers," said Eran Karoly, vice president of marketing for Ixia. "We are delighted to be first-to-market with our XENPAK test solution and to provide network equipment manufacturers with a test platform that will significantly speed up their time-to-market cycle."

Ixia said its XENPAK Load Module supports hot pluggable 10 Gigabit Ethernet transceivers, and offers wire-speed traffic generation, capture, analysis, and routing protocol performance verification. The Optillion transceiver slides into the Load Module through a PCB cut-out, and connects via an industry-standard 70 pin connector.

Ixia also said the XENPAK Load Module also provides a Management Data Input/Output (MDIO) interface, which allows the Load Module to act as the Station Management entity (STA), controlling one or more MDIO Manageable Devices (MMD) in the user's system. The user can read and write to the MDIO registers inside an MMD via Ixia's graphical user interface, which enables functional testing of XENPAK transceivers.
