Picolight Inc., a Boulder, Colo.-based designer and maker of high-speed optoelectronic components and subsystems, announced support for the SFF-8427 diagnostic capability standard in a 2 Gigabit per second (Gbps) Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) transceiver.
The new PL-XPL-00-S23 transceiver is the latest offering in Picolight's Accelar family of short wavelength (850 nm) serial optical transceivers, and provides equipment manufacturers and system administrators with the enhanced capability to view the performance of an installed optical network's physical-layer (PHY), officials said.
The embedded diagnostic capability permits proactive monitoring and management of ports and links to pre-empt potential problems, which, in turn, improves network stability in mission-critical applications.
The enhanced capabilities are available in Picolight's Accelar short wavelength SFP solutions, and soon will be available in the company's Extensus line of long wavelength (1310 nm) SFP transceivers. The Accelar PL-XPL-00-S23 transceiver now being sampled is a dual-rate Fibre Channel 850 nm SFP with extended operating temperature ranges.
