When it comes to storage, small and medium businesses have a lot in common with large enterprises. Just like the Fortune 400, they need to ensure that data is backed up, retrievable and secure, and that data access complies with governmental regulations. Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Attend this webcast and learn storage strategies to meet your growing business demands. Register Now >
Columbia, Md.-based Corvis Corp. (Quote), a provider of intelligent optical networking solutions, today introduced an enhanced tool set for carriers to build optically optimized networks.
Corvis' new Unified Network Platform and enhanced product capabilities provide carriers with a full range of flexible solutions to minimize network cost structure, while increasing revenue opportunity, officials said. Corvis' Unified Network Platform comprises multiband and optical switching at the edge and core respectively, combined with ultra long haul, extended long haul and long haul transport, and unified network management.
"Our Unified Network Platform provides carriers with the tools they need to extract value to their network today, while providing a field deployed and proven migration path to next generation networks," said Dr. David Huber, president and chief executive officer. "Our solutions provide carriers with the building blocks to optimize network cost structure and provide flexibility, while delivering speed to market capabilities needed to win profitable new business."
Based on the company's field-proven optical networking technology, Corvis products let carriers seamlessly scale capacity and migrate more efficiently network element infrastructure to address changing network traffic patterns. With the Corvis Unified Network Platform, carriers can turn up revenue-generating services and change transport speeds at any time without having to return to amplifier sites to make operational adjustments.
For the first time in the industry, Corvis said its Unified Network Platform allows carriers to migrate from point-to-point configurations to mesh configurations, without service interruptions, using the same infrastructure and management system. Through the use of advanced, common and modular building blocks and technologies across the Corvis Unified Network Platform, on-going operating expenditures are also lowered through rapid and simplified provisioning, reduced power and spare requirements, common methods and procedures for network engineering, repair and maintenance and significantly reduced sparing requirements.
Finally, the traditional barriers of pre-provisioning circuits across multiple systems are eliminated as the Corvis Unified Network Platform solution easily accommodates network extensions, such as high-capacity spurs, officials added.
