Intertex Launches SIP-Capable ADSL Modem
February 26, 2002
By Bob Woods

Intertex Data AB said it is rolling out its highly integrated ADSL modem, the IX66 Internet Gate ADSL. The IX66 is a full rate ADSL modem, and incorporates a NAT-router, a packet filtering firewall with stateful inspection and a SIP server enabling SIP-based person-to-person IP communication.

The new modem can be used from a secure office or home LAN, universally over the Internet, officials also said.

The built-in SIP proxy and SIP registrar, both of which dynamically controls the firewall, allows the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to be used on the LAN the IX66 is protecting, universally over the Internet. Previously, SIP communication has not traversed firewalls or NAT-routers.

The IX66 Internet Gate product family is powered by the CX821xx 158 MIPS ARM9 network processor from Conexant Systems Inc. With that chip, it has been possible to integrate function and features, such as a high performance true firewall, previously only available in significantly higher priced products. The integrated ADSL modem uses Conexant's AccessRunner full rate ADSL chip set with proven interoperability and performance against all leading DSLAMs used by ADSL network operators.
