When it comes to storage, small and medium businesses have a lot in common with large enterprises. Just like the Fortune 400, they need to ensure that data is backed up, retrievable and secure, and that data access complies with governmental regulations. Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Atrica Inc., a Santa Clara, Calif.-based Optical Ethernet equipment maker, announced availability of its ASPEN (Atrica Services Platform for Ethernet Networks) next generation service management and provisioning system.
Atrica said ASPEN 2.0 incorporates a set of applications that combine to deliver the key carrier-class provisioning and management features necessary for successful Metro Ethernet services creation: rapid bandwidth provisioning, simplified end-user self-management of end-to-end Service Level Agreements (SLAs) over Optical Ethernet, and seamless integration with existing carrier Operational Support Systems (OSS).
Some of ASPEN's new provisioning and management features include:
ASPEN Manager -- a core set of three components that deliver carrier-class management capabilities for provider's Network Operations Centers (NOCs). ASPEN Manager includes a connection manager, a service-level agreements (SLA) manager, and a network topology and inventory manager.
ASPEN Customer Network Management (CNM) -- an application that allows end users to manage, monitor and update their private network resources. ASPEN CNM allows end users to change service properties, monitor performance and verify that the guaranteed service level is being fulfilled
ASPEN OSS Server -- a CORBA and XML-based open API that provides fast and flexible integration with third party and service provider OSS applications.
ASPEN is the cornerstone of Atrica's Optical Ethernet Services Creation Strategy, a comprehensive framework that enables carriers worldwide to quickly deliver more profitable, revenue-generating Optical Ethernet services with their Metro networks, officials said.
ASPEN 2.0 is available now. Pricing of ASPEN is based on the network configuration and type of services being offered, with an list entry price of approximately $10,000.
Atrica also announced results of an in-depth financial study that it says demonstrates the "significant cost benefits of Optical Ethernet for Metro network service providers." Most notable is the study's finding that carriers deploying an Optical Ethernet Metro network infrastructure can realize dramatically improved cashflow and profitability, with payback in as little as two quarters, as compared to the two and one-half years it would take to realize payback with an Ethernet/DWDM alternative, and three and one-half years with next-generation SONET equipment.
The study also found that carriers can achieve a sustainable return on investment of 400% and that the total cost of ownership for an Optical Ethernet solution is 42% less than an Ethernet/DWDM alternative and 51% less than a next-generation SONET solution, officials also said.
The study was conducted by Network Strategy Partners and sponsored by Atrica.
And Atrica and InfoVista (Quote), a global provider of service assurance software solutions that help service providers and enterprises achieve better returns from their complex IT infrastructures, today announced that they have signed an agreement that enables Atrica to provide its carrier customers with comprehensive Service Level Agreement (SLA) management for their Metro Ethernet service offerings.
