NetTest, an Andover, Mass.-based provider of testing, monitoring, management and optical component products for advanced and converged networks, announced a system it called "the industry's only surveillance solution that simply and automatically monitors the status of metropolitan fiber optic networks of all sizes regardless of in-house expertise.
The new "metroWATCH" generates automated alarms and calls to the network administrator as well as to the service provider or fiber maintenance contractor, enabling the administrator to track service level agreements and optical quality of service. MetroWATCH is being dubbed as a "breakthrough service" for the metropolitan network managers, historically plagued by the inability of their traditional network monitoring tools to alert them when problems arise.
Featuring remote Web access, network managers can also access network status from anywhere they choose to be, thus eliminating the requirement for a central telecommunications office when managing metropolitan networks.
MetroWATCH features plug-and-play installation that allows network managers to be up and running in minutes, instantly monitoring their network, without any prior fiber expertise, officials added.
NetTest will present new metroWATCH at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference (OFC) on March 19th in Anaheim, Calif. MetroWATCH is now available for immediate delivery, officials added.
