Optical-networking product provider Sorrento Networks (Quote) and Foundry Networks (Quote), a provider of enterprise and service provider switching, routing and Web traffic management solutions, said they have successfully completed interoperability testing enabling broadband IP transport over Sorrento Networks' dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) optical networking systems.
Interoperability between Sorrento Networks' GigaMux DWDM optical transport platform and Foundry's NetIron Internet routers allows service providers to combine the full suite of IP services in metro and regional markets directly over optical networks, officials said.
Successful interoperability was demonstrated between Foundry's NetIron Internet routers for Gigabit Ethernet, OC-3, OC-12 and OC-48 Packet over SONET (POS) and optical network connections up to 600 kilometers over the Sorrento Networks GigaMux platform.
Service providers deploying the Sorrento - Foundry solution can provision end-to-end, error-free high bandwidth IP traffic and offer corporate customers high-speed, low-cost, reliable and highly scalable IP service without the need for intermediary devices, officials also said.
