When it comes to storage, small and medium businesses have a lot in common with large enterprises. Just like the Fortune 400, they need to ensure that data is backed up, retrievable and secure, and that data access complies with governmental regulations. Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Attend this webcast and learn storage strategies to meet your growing business demands. Register Now >
Conexant Systems Inc.'s Mindspeed Technologies Internet infrastructure business introduced a trio of low-power, 3.2 Gbps crosspoint switches that include integrated input equalization to optimize performance and simplify the system design process.
The 68x68, 34x34 and 17x17 crosspoint switches are targeted for use in a wide variety of equipment including synchronous optical network (SONET) add/drop multiplexers, small storage area network (SAN) switches, dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) systems and protection switching.
Mindspeed's new products include the M21130 68x68, the M21120 34x34 and the M21110 17x17 crosspoint switches, all of which are pin-compatible with the company's earlier products and enable customers to upgrade to new devices with minimal, if any, additional engineering work.
These devices extend Mindspeed's broad line of field proven, high-performance crosspoint switches, while offering significantly better power efficiency than comparable alternative solutions -- nearly a 40 percent advantage for Mindspeed's M21130 68x68 crosspoint switch to a four-fold advantage for the M21110 17x17 switch.
By including input equalization, the devices enhance a system's tolerance for deterministic jitter, or the slight movements in a transmitted signal's time or phase that can cause errors or loss of synchronization introduced by board traces and cables. This allows a reduction in design time, cuts system verification costs and eliminates the need for high-end board materials, officials said.
Samples and evaluation units for Mindspeed's crosspoint switches are available immediately, with volume production expected in the second calendar quarter of 2002. All three devices are offered in a 35mm x 35mm 580-pin cavity down ball grid array (CDBGA) package.
The M21130 68x68 crosspoint switch is priced at $695, the M21120 34x34 crosspoint switch is priced at $435 and the M21110 17x17 crosspoint switch is priced at $255. All prices are for OEM volumes of 1,000, officials added.
