Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Tellabs: On the (White) Rocks
February 7, 2002
By Bob Woods
Internet networker Tellabs (Quote) and White Rock Networks, an optical transport systems provider, said they will integrate their products to create a new, industry-leading metro service delivery platform that both companies say helps carriers quickly offer revenue-generating services.
Under the terms of a newly-signed original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement, Tellabs will integrate White Rock's products into the Tellabs TITAN 6100 optical transport system to create an enhanced metro dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM)-based service delivery platform. This enhanced platform will enable service providers to maximize profitability and return on investment by delivering Gigabit Ethernet and optical private line services over the same DWDM infrastructure.
Tellabs will in turn integrate White Rock Networks' VLX2010 OC-48 and VLX2020 OC-192 next-generation synchronous optical network (SONET) add/drop multiplexers (ADMs) into the Tellabs TITAN 6100 system. In addition, Tellabs will manage, market, sell and support the White Rock products as an integrated part of the Tellabs TITAN 6100 optical transport system beginning in June 2002.
The Tellabs TITAN 6100 optical transport system is a next-generation, metro DWDM system that helps make service providers more profitable by increasing revenues, lowering network lifecycle costs and reducing operating expenses. The White Rock VLX2010 and VLX2020 products provide superior next- generation SONET capabilities including support of both SONET and Gigabit Ethernet services while significantly lowering the carrier's cost to deliver services.
"Tellabs' metro optical transport system helps service providers increase their profitability," said Scott Steele, vice president of product strategy and portfolio management for Tellabs. "Our agreement with White Rock Networks provides Tellabs with new technology that delivers to customers another way to offer revenue-generating services quickly."
"Tellabs is a very well-respected communications infrastructure builder, and we believe the choice of White Rock's product family is proof of the capability of our equipment and that we have the best technology for Tellabs' service delivery requirements," said Lonnie Martin, founder and CEO of White Rock Networks. "Combined with our direct sales efforts, this agreement also allows White Rock technology to find applications within major carriers much faster than would otherwise have been possible."
