Acterna Tunes Into Cable OSS Market
February 4, 2002
By dc.internet.com Staff

Targeting the growing demand among cable operators for management systems to accelerate the deployment of new cable services, Acterna (Quote) has formed a new operational support systems (OSS) business in its Cable Networks division. As part of its expansion into the OSS business, the Germantown, Md.-based Acterna will introduceVision360 later this year, an OSS platform that provides a suite of applications for network and service layer management that is scalable, flexible and open.

The platform will automate and integrate network management systems in an effort to reduce costs, speed time to market, avoid costly mistakes and increase customer satisfaction. According to RHK, a telecommunications industry analyst group, service providers are looking to OSS services to reduce operational costs and improve profitability.

Acterna named John Hart to lead the new unit as vice president of OSS Solutions. Hart will lead the design, development and delivery of OSS solutions that manage the delivery of advanced services such as interactive TV (ITV), voice over IP (VoIP) and high speed data services (HSDS).

"The establishment of the new OSS Solutions business is a natural evolution of Acterna's leader ship position within the cable software marketplace and validates our strong commitment to satisfying the solutions requirements of our rapidly expanding customer base," said Dave Holly, vice president and general manager, Cable Networks Division.

Acterna is the world's second largest communications test company, focused entirely on providing test and management equipment, software, systems and services. With presence in 80 countries, Acterna helps customers develop, install, and maintain their optical, cable, data/Internet, access and wireless networks. The company's OSS platform combines network performance management, network provisioning, service activation, performance management, quality of service (QoS) and service level agreement (SLA) management, remote test and monitoring, and field problem resolution.
