Just like the Fortune 400, they need to ensure that data is backed up, retrievable and secure, and that data access complies with governmental regulations. Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) developer Optical Solutions Inc. and Roseville Telephone Co., the ILEC subsidiary of SureWest Communications (Quote), have powered up a state-of-the-art optical network that delivers blazingly fast Internet connections -- up to 100 Mbps -- as well as advanced voice service.
The first phase of the network build-out extends to Roseville, Calif. customers who were previously without high-speed data service.
Roseville Telephone Co. claims to be California's third largest independent local exchange carrier with some 135,000 access lines with among the highest miles of fiber optics per capita in the nation. The ILEC began construction of the FTTH network last fall, augmenting the company's existing fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) infrastructure.
Roseville Telephone's 13 percent residential high-speed data penetration rate is said to be the highest in the nation. In the near future, the ILEC will continue its FTTH expansion to additional neighborhoods in Roseville and the surrounding area.
The new FiberPath 400 system from Optical Solutions is making its debut in the Roseville deployment. It is the only all-optic network solution available to service providers today that converges ultra-high speed data, multiple voice lines, hundreds of analog and/or digital CATV channels and IP streaming media on one platform, and delivers these services directly to the customer premise.
