In what's being called a "significant global corporate networking agreement," KPNQwest (Quote), a pan-European data communications and hosting company, today announced a migration of Hewlett-Packard Co.'s (Quote) European network onto the KPNQwest ATM network with links to the USA and Asia.
The multi-million three-year contract with KPNQwest's integrated IP services and EuroRings infrastructure covers the connection of a large number of ATM sites, as well as the provision of IP Transit services, officials said.
The ATM network will incorporate sites on KPNQwest's 50-city macro-capacity EuroRings network backbone. As well as the EuroRings connections, KPNQwest will also connect more distant sites via guaranteed Quality of Service connections.
All connections will be made at 155 Mbps (megabits per sedond) with virtually unlimited scalability, officials said. The network will cover Germany, the U.K., France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, the Nordics, the Baltics and parts of Eastern Europe.
KPNQwest's services span across a 15 country European footprint with seamless connectivity to a 180,000 kilometer global network. The company owns and operates the EuroRings, described as the fastest, most advanced fiber-optic backbone in Europe. After it completes its acquisition of the Ebone and Central Europe divisions from GTS, KPNQwest said it will offer a 25,000 kilometer fiber-optic network, connecting 60 cities with 14 metro area networks and a total of 55,000m2 of hosting space.
