Tyco Rolls Out Power Modules
January 30, 2002
By Bob Woods

Tyco Electronics Power Systems said it has rolled out the QW030xx series bi-polar dual output 30W-36W power modules, for use by manufacturers of advanced analogue and ADSL (Class AB and Class G line driver) communications equipment.

The new series of modules addresses "a very specific requirement within the area of access and optical networking equipment," company officials said.

The QW030xx DC-DC converter series includes a range of options, providing 3A at each output in a (+/-)5V version, 1.5A in a (+/-)12V version and 1A per output in the (+/-)15V model. All QW030xx series modules offer a typical efficiency of 88% at full load and operate over an input voltage range of 36Vdc-75Vdc (48V nominal).

The industry standard quarter brick QW030xx series modules measure 36.8mm x 59.7mm x 12.7mm (1.45"x 2.3" x 0.5") and offer a metal case for optimum thermal performance. Threaded holes are provided to allow easy mounting to a cold wall or the addition of a heat-sink for high-temperature applications.

Built-in safety features include over temperature, over current and over voltage protection as well as remote on/off.

QW030xx Series modules are available now, priced at $57 in 1,000 unit quantities, and $48 in 5,000 unit quantities.

Tyco Electronics Power Systems is a division of Tyco Electronics, and provides power supply products including AC-DC and DC-DC switching power supplies, batteries and complete communications and energy power systems.
