Tyco Electronics today introduced a connectivity management system that it said provides facility and IT managers with a complete and up-to-date audit and inventory of their premises cabling infrastructure for new and existing networks.
According to the company, by fully documenting the end-to-end inventory of a network's cabling infrastructure and associated equipment, the cable management system greatly simplifies the planning, design and implementation of new networks while minimizing the cost and downtime of ongoing moves, adds and changes (MACs) for existing networks.
Bruce Davis, CEO, Fisk Corporation a division of Tyco Electronics, said "With the introduction of the connectivity management system, we're providing facility and IT managers with a comprehensive view of the very foundation of their network infrastructures, right down to individual cabling runs to each device on the network. By doing so, this cable management system provides a completely updated snapshot of the physical topology of an enterprise's network to easily identify faulty cable, and to keep network downtime to an absolute minimum during frequent MACs."
Tyco said enterprises could take advantage of the connectivity management system in its "database-only" mode for inventory tracking or through its integration with the most current version of AutoDesk's AutoCAD program to create visual representations of their network topologies. The Tyco Electronics Connectivity Management System is built on an N-tier, client/server architecture for scalability from the desktop to the enterprise. The system supports Windows 9x, NT and 2000, and offers a Microsoft Internet Explorer-style interface for ease of use.
