Motorola Inc. (Quote) said its Broadband Communications Sector unit signed a supply agreement with Minneapolis-based Seren Innovations, where Seren will work with Motorola to deploy Motorola's Broadband Services Router 64000 (BSR 64000) throughout its service areas in Minnesota and California.
The BSR 64000 will enable multi-service provider access and virtual non-stop, carrier-class operations, officials said.
Seren Innovations said it uses an advanced hybrid fiber optic and coaxial network to deliver its Astound-brand cable TV, high-speed Internet, and local and long-distance telephone services to residential and business subscribers in the St. Cloud, Minn. area, and in the East Bay area of San Francisco, Calif.
By deploying Motorola's carrier-class CMTS/router platform, Seren said it hopes to expand its customer service offerings. Motorola's BSR 64000 delivers value-added services, content, and applications from multiple providers across its network.
In addition, the Motorola BSR 64000 provides the fault detection and high-speed, automatic switchover required for high-availability and critical services, including lifeline voice over cable networks. The BSR 64000 is architected for 99.999 percent (five nines) availability to help ensure virtual non-stop operations - a capability that is important to both Seren's subscribers and revenue-sharing partners.
Seren Innovations is a wholly owned subsidiary of Xcel Energy Inc., formerly Northern States Power Co.
