ACSI Network Technologies Inc., a Herndon, Va.-based provider of metropolitan area optical fiber networks and strategic network design services, said it has won a pact with Richmond, Va.-based Dominion Telecom Inc. involving fiber optics in downtown Washington, D.C.
Terms of the deal, the financial details of which were not released, call for ACSI to provide to Dominion 11 miles of conduit in downtown Washington. Also, ACSI will provide related routine maintenance and emergency restoration services.
"This agreement makes it possible for Dominion Telecom to strengthen its presence in another strategic eastern U.S. market without having to wait for construction," said Gregg Kamper, senior vice president and general manager of Dominion Telecom, in a statement. "Dominion Telecom is rapidly entering new markets by purchasing and leasing conduit and fiber from other telecommunications companies."
"By linking the Washington, D.C. metro area to its existing long haul network, Dominion Telecom can more quickly expand its position as an integrated broadband service provider for the wholesale market on both the local and national levels," said Wade Robertson, ACSI's senior vice president of sales.
ACSI is a subsidiary of e.spire Communications (Quote), an integrated communications provider. Dominion Telecom is a unit of Dominion (Quote), an energy producer.
