Proximion Fiber Optics AB, a Wilmington, Del.-based supplier of In-Fiber-Intelligence, has begun shipping its customer samples of WISTOM, an optical layer monitor combining both optical channel monitoring and optical performance monitoring functionality.
Customer sampling signifies the technical maturity of WISTOM and the interest it has generated from system vendors looking to incorporate Proximion's monitoring equipment into their network solutions, company officials said in a statement.
WISTOM allows customers to set up data acquisition and channel plans, control signal processing, as well as monitor live performance data including channel wavelength, power, Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR), and the entire optical spectrum.
Proximion is currently shipping WISTOM ES shelf, a 19" 1U module. This product will subsequently be available as an embedded card.
With its advanced Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) technology, Proximion's WISTOM optical layer monitor embeds functionality into the optical layer to detect and counteract network faults and reduce the costs resulting from network downtime. As a result of this increased functionality, WISTOM analyzes the performance of individual wavelength channels and pinpoints problems to be resolved, ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) for network operators.
WISTOM fits in any application and operates in all WDM networks, the company said. As a highly modular platform that does not contain any moving parts, WISTOM can easily accommodate future features and applications.
