When it comes to storage, small and medium businesses have a lot in common with large enterprises. Just like the Fortune 400, they need to ensure that data is backed up, retrievable and secure, and that data access complies with governmental regulations. Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Attend this webcast and learn storage strategies to meet your growing business demands. Register Now >
Portsmouth, N.H.-based Net to Net
Technologies, a provider of Ethernet-based IP DSL services,
yesterday announced the BSX8000-5, a broadband services switch for its multiService
IP DSLAMs.
The company claims, the BSX8000 delivers exponentially increased
switching capability, including a 10-fold increase in system
throughput, and is a key component of Net to Net's non-blocking IP
DSLAM> architecture.
The BSX8000 feature set is designed to allow telcos and service providers to
build multi-service IP broadband networks. Telco Triple Play networks
require significant traffic management, intelligent packet switching,
and Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities to deliver the premium
services of IP TV, high-speed Internet access, in addition to legacy
voice services. IP DSLAM system bandwidth must scale to support these
real-time, bandwidth intensive applications, especially IP TV, in a
completely non-blocking fashion.
"Today's broadband networks are engineered with high bandwidth needs,
and DSLAMs must provide a non-blocking platform ensuring all services
are available to all subscribers at all times. Our BSX8000-5 delivers
this performance and allows our customers to continue to migrate their
broadband networks to deliver advanced services," Ken Latimer, chairman and CEO for Net to Net, said
The BSX8000 is designed to enable multiple broadband network topologies via
multiple front panel Gigabit Ethernet connections. In addition to four
front panel fixed 10/100/1000 Ethernet RJ-45 ports, Net to Net reports that the BSX8000 also
features a flexible Micro Interface Module (MIM) that accepts multiple
interface types, including fiber Gigabit Ethernet, fiber 100 Mbps
Ethernet, 2 x T1/E1, and 4 x T1/E1. These interfaces will support ring
topologies with fast failover capability, allowing telcos to use the
same fiber runs currently in place for legacy SONET/ATM broadband
networks. In addition to ring topologies, daisy-chain and star
topologies are also supported.
The BSX8000, which is scheduled to be available in April, is also build to provide multiple Layer 2 and
Layer 3 services, including 802.1Q/p, TOS, and DSCP priority marking,
IP multicast support, priority queuing, 802.1ad trunking, and
other networking features.
