When it comes to storage, small and medium businesses have a lot in common with large enterprises. Just like the Fortune 400, they need to ensure that data is backed up, retrievable and secure, and that data access complies with governmental regulations. Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Attend this webcast and learn storage strategies to meet your growing business demands. Register Now >
Sprint
announced yesterday that it has expanded its optical transmission equipment portfolio
with the addition of White Rock Networks.
According to a statement released by the Overland, Kan.-based company, Sprint North Supply will sell White
Rock's family of Optical Metro Transport products to network service providers
including its VLX2020 OC48/OC192 SONET ADM.
Richardson, Texas-based White Rock Networks provides carriers with a
family of next-generation optical transport systems designed to cost-effectively deliver high-speed services in metro areas. The company touts
a modular building-block architecture.
"Our carrier clients tell us they will be increasing spending on their
metro optical infrastructure in order to deliver more bandwidth out to the
edge," said Brad Clark, vice president of marketing for Sprint North Supply, in a statement.
"As a result, we have an interest in the innovative approach White Rock has
taken to produce an attractive price-performance model for their products and
consider them to be an excellent new component of optical network solutions
Sprint North Supply can provide."
White Rock's VLX2020, according to Sprint, is designed to provide a low first-cost, inexpensive, simple-to-
grow solution for SONET-based metro optical networks that offers a full range
of services from DS1 up to OC-192 including both fast Ethernet and Gigabit
Ethernet.
White Rock's offerings include products
from the photonic layer such as the VLX1010 Wavelength Division
Multiplexing system, which provides both coarse and dense (CWDM/DWDM)
wavelength solutions for metropolitan networks.
According to White Rock, the modular approach of the
VLX2020 allows carriers to incorporate new technology faster than older
highly integrated architectures while potentially reducing both capital expenses and operations costs.
Lonnie Martin, founder and CEO of White Rock
Networks said he expects the deal with Sprint North Supply to substantially increase
White Rock's market penetration.
