network for delivery of next generation broadband services, Lightpath, the
business telecommunications services division of Cablevision Systems
Corp., announced today that it has deployed a dense wavelength division
multiplexing (DWDM"DWDM) metro optical transport solution from Nortel
Networks.
Lightpath, which claims to be the the third-largest Local Exchange Carrier in New York
State, is using Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5200 Multiservice
Platform to evolve its existing SONET-based Lightpath Optical Network
backbone to deliver Metro Ethernet, Storage Area Networking (SAN), Gigabit
Ethernet, managed services, and other next generation broadband
services.
"Implementing Nortel Networks
optical solutions provides a scalable network infrastructure that
enables us to increase network capacity and efficiency, lower
operating costs, and maximize our capital resources to add new,
revenue-generating services as the market demands them," said Brian Fabiano, senior vice

Nortel Networks global cable solutions include
integrated cable services spanning video and video-on-demand, voice
and multimedia communications; high-speed data services; managed
network services for business customers; and next generation access.
Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5000 Multiservice Platform is designed to

services over a network to the New York,
New Jersey and Connecticut business market.
"In highly competitive markets like New York City, operators can differentiate themselves by offering reliable services at the highest quality and the lowest price," said Rob Wood, vice president, Global Cable Solutions, Nortel Networks.
