Just like the Fortune 400, they need to ensure that data is backed up, retrievable and secure, and that data access complies with governmental regulations. Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Attend this webcast and learn storage strategies to meet your growing business demands.

Metrobility and Appian Complete Testing
July 16, 2003
By OpticallyNetworked Staff

Metrobility Optical Systems yesterday announced that it has completed interoperability testing with the Appian Communications Optical Services Activation Platform (OSAP) to offer a managed Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) fiber solution that extends from the smallest business establishment to the first central office of the service provider.

"Appian's OSAP and Services Termination Unit (STU) solution is designed to ease the migration from traditional TDM to carrier-quality Ethernet services that are simple, scalable and bandwidth efficient," said Anand Parikh, vice president of product marketing and business development at Appian. "While the STU extends advanced Ethernet and TDM over fiber services to facilities serving up to four customers, the OSAP supports the provisioning, aggregation and grooming of these services onto a provider's SONET/SDH and/or IP services backbone," he said.

"Extensive interoperability testing with Metrobility's Radiance Optical Ethernet System has shown that we can now extend fully-managed Ethernet First Mile services to also include single-tenant facilities with Metrobility's physical layer EFM solution," Parikh said.

Based on an advanced Ethernet switching and quality of service (QoS) architecture, OSAP and STU are designed to deliver managed, carrier-class Ethernet services that scale from 64Kbps to 1Gbps in 1Kbps increments.

Metrobility's Radiance Optical Ethernet System is designed to provide a set of operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) features for remote management, including line quality, troubleshooting and testing, and equipment health throughout the physical layer. These combined features enable service providers to not only enable the delivery, aggregation and grooming of legacy TDM and next generation Ethernet services to a carrier's services network, but also effectively monitor and troubleshoot remote optical Ethernet links to lower the cost of ownership while providing greater customer satisfaction. Because the Radiance system is both modular and scalable, it also supports Appian's scalable, pay as you grow service delivery architecture.

"Metrobility's Ethernet First Mile OAM solution relies on the ability to interoperate with Layer 2 and 3 Ethernet products to extend Ethernet's advantages to customers in the first mile," said Alex Saunders, CEO of Metrobility.

"Since our strategy to provide service providers the tools necessary to create simple, reliable and scalable Ethernet WAN solutions that dramatically reduce the cost of delivering metro access services, it is important that we continue to pursue interoperability testing with the leading network equipment providers, such as Appian," Saunders said.
