Union Springs Telephone is working with Optical Solutions to deploy a FiberPath 400 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) system in Union Springs, Ala. Union Springs Telephone is a subsidiary of ROPIR Industries, Inc., located about 36 miles southeast of Montgomery.
The new network will deliver ultra high-speed data, voice and video services to over 1,700 residents and businesses in the historic city of Union Springs, which was incorporated in 1844. It is the first FTTH deployment in the state of Alabama and the greater Southeast area of the United States.
Union Springs Telephone first deployed the Optical Solutions FiberPath 400 system back in November 2001, when the company's fourth-generation FTTH system was first available to the marketplace. Now Union Springs Telephone is wrapping up the first phase of its FiberPath 400 deployment, with the second phase slated to begin in the next 60 days. There are now more than 750 homes and businesses up and running, and over 1,000 more planned subscribers for phase two of the deployment.
Optical Solutions' FiberPath 400 FTTH system uses passive optical network architecture to deliver converged voice, video and data services from a central office to a customer premise. Once service is initiated, each customer receives data service at extraordinary speeds, multiple phone lines, and hundreds of analog and/or digital cable-TV channels. All services are provided on a single, integrated bill to subscribers.
