Norlight Launces VoIP Long-Distance Service
January 10, 2003
By Kevin Reichard

Norlight Telecommunications, a provider of integrated data solutions for businesses, announced today the addition of Voice over IP Long Distance (VoIP LD) service. The new service will converge voice and data networks, creating a foundation for enhanced IP services.

Norlight's VoIP LD gives customers the opportunity to integrate their voice and data on a single secure data network. A VoIP LD customer can cut costs on long distance through reduced per-minute charges by using dedicated long distance service. In addition, customers can reduce their access trunks to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and converge voice and data services on fewer local loops.

The convergence of voice and data networks allows users advanced IP functionality, and paves the way for future IP-based applications. In addition, since VoIP works with legacy systems, it can be implemented without upgrading expensive equipment such as PBXs and handsets.

"VoIP LD does more than converge a user's voice and data networks and cut their long distance costs, it gives them the piece of mind that their systems are not going to be obsolete," said Kamlesh Sethi, Norlight's VoIP LD product manager. "Users of VoIP LD can use their current legacy systems, and if they choose, can implement new IP technologies at a later time."
